Mamma Mia! returns to South Africa in 2026 with an extraordinary cast led by iconic Broadway star Amra-Faye Wright, who spent 23 years as Velma Kelly in Chicago The Musical on Broadway. The feel-good ABBA musical runs from 3 September to 11 October 2026 at Artscape in Cape Town, then 16 October to 22 November 2026 at Teatro, Montecasino in Johannesburg.

Lead Cast

Amra-Faye Wright plays Donna Sheridan, reprising her role as the iconic mother at the heart of the story. Wright is a South African-born performer who has worked internationally for 30 years and recently completed an MFA in painting at the New York Academy of Art. She divides her time between New York and McGregor in the Western Cape.

Samantha Peo returns as Tanya, reuniting with Wright after they starred together in the defining South African production of Chicago The Musical in 2005 and subsequent revivals. Peo’s credits include Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie and The Addams Family: The Musical.

Lindy Abromowitz as Rosie completes the trio of “Donna and the Dynamos.” Abromowitz has appeared in Kinky Boots, Grease and The Sound of Music.

Paul du Toit plays Sam Carmichael. Du Toit appeared in nine seasons of the television series Binnelanders and has credits in Hedwig and The Angry Inch, The Rocky Horror Show and Into The Woods.

Tiaan Rautenbach reprises his role as Bill Austin, with credits including Pretty Woman: The Musical, We Will Rock You and The Addams Family: The Musical.

Matt Newman plays Harry Bright. Newman has appeared in international television including The Crown and Outlander.

Leah Mari plays Sophie Sheridan, the bride-to-be at the heart of the story. Mari is currently starring as Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman: The Musical nationwide.

Supporting Cast

Jock Kleynhans plays Sky, Sophie’s fiancé. Adriano Carlos plays Pepper, with Daniel Conradie as Eddie. Jordan Rogers and Michelle Juncker play Sophie’s friends Ali and Lisa.

Creative Team

Janice Honeyman directs, with choreography by Duane Alexander. Set and lighting design is by Denis Hutchinson, with sound design by David Classen. Costumes are by Birrie le Roux and wigs by Frances Moerdyk. Music direction is by Daniel Geddes.

Mamma Mia! tells the story of a wedding on a Greek island where bride-to-be Sophie invites three men from her mother’s past, hoping to discover which one is her father. The show features timeless ABBA songs including Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You and I Have A Dream.
