WES-KAAP. – Die polisie se teen-ontvoering multidissiplinêre taakspan is tans besig om inligting van ‘n politikus (44) wat na bewering Dinsdagmiddag in Driftsands, Mfuleni gekaap, ontvoer en beroof is, te ondersoek.
Brig. Novela Potelwa sê die slagoffer is na die voorval in Lingelethu-Wes, in Khayelitsha, afgelaai. Hy is na ‘n polisiestasie om die misdaad aan te meld. Die slagoffer se voertuig is in die Khayelitsha-area teruggevind.
Die ondersoek duur voort, maar nog geen inhegtenisnemings is gemaak nie.
Bantu Holomisa, die president van die UDM, het intussen die ontvoering van Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, die adjunkleier van die party, in ‘n verklaring bevestig.
Kwankwa was glo onderweg na Kaapstad Internasionale Lughawe om die presidensiële inhuldiging by te woon, toe hy na bewering ontvoer is. ‘n Losprys van R10 000 is vir sy veilige vrylating betaal.
Holomisa sê Kwankwa se eiendom, ook sy voertuig (wat later teruggevind is), is gesteel en hy is veilig, alhoewel hy getraumatiseer is.

Statement by Bantu Holomisa, President of the United Democratic Movement
The United Democratic Movement (UDM) would like to confirm that its Deputy President, Nqabayomzi Kwankwa, MP, was kidnapped today on his way to Cape Town Airport en route to the Presidential inauguration. A ransom of R10,000 was demanded for his safe return.
The UDM paid the ransom, and Mr Kwankwa was safely released, albeit shaken and traumatised. All his belongings, including his vehicle, were stolen.
His vehicle was later found abandoned.
Mr. Kwankwa is in contact with the police and his family has been informed of what has occurred.
The UDM is saddened by this horrific event, but is very grateful for his safe return. We wish Tshawe well on his road to recovery from this dastardly incident.
