GAUTENG. – Motorists are warned to be especially vigilant in the evenings following an alleged carjacking attempt on the N1 near the Garsfontein interchange.

According to Mike Bolhuis of Specialised Security Services (SSS), the incident occurred at around 20:30 when a woman driving northbound on the N1 was allegedly approached by two men who attempted to force her out of her vehicle. A Gauteng traffic police officer who was patrolling in the area noticed the incident and activated hazard lights as he moved towards the vehicle. The suspects allegedly abandoned the carjacking attempt and ran towards a waiting vehicle.

SSS emphasises that the information is being treated as a precautionary safety warning while authorities establish the circumstances of the incident. The security company says it has also received reports of suspected activity and alleged carjacking attempts in the vicinity of the N4 at the Watermeyer interchange and Rossouw Street, as well as the N1 at the Garsfontein interchange.

Motorists are advised to keep their doors locked and windows closed, especially in the evenings, to place valuable items out of sight and to be extra cautious at bridges, off-ramps and areas with limited visibility. SSS warns motorists not to confront suspects and to report suspected activity to the relevant authorities where it is safe to do so.
