GAUTENG. – ’n Jong seun wat sy troetelhond op straat gevind en versorg het, se hond is verlede week by die Soshanguve Animal Shelter opgeneem. Die seun het die hond liefgehad, maar sy ma wou die hond glo nie hê nie en die hond is aan ’n ketting gehou.
Die Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educentre NPC sê op sosiale media ’n waarskuwing is uitgereik omdat die ketting onnodige lyding vir die hond veroorsaak het. Alhoewel die seun hartseer was toe sy troeteldier weggeneem is, is die hond nou veilig by die skuiling en ontvang die sorg en liefde wat hy nodig het.
Die skuiling beklemtoon die belangrikheid van opvoeding oor dierewelstand en bedank die seun vir sy mededeelsaamheid en poging om ’n dier se lewe te red.

We received a comment from someone saying she was giving a dog away for free. When we followed up, we learned the story behind it and honestly… it was heartbreaking.
The dog belonged to her young son. He had picked the dog up from the streets and took care of him as best as he could. You could see that there was real love there. Unfortunately his mother did not want the dog, and the dog ended up being kept on a chain.
Yesterday we went out to collect the dog. While there, we issued a warning for chaining, as chaining a dog causes unnecessary suffering and is not acceptable.
The hardest part of the day was the little boy. He was absolutely heartbroken when we had to take his furry friend. Watching a child cry because he was losing a dog he rescued and loved was incredibly painful. That moment stayed with us.
This situation reminds us why education and awareness are so important. Children often understand kindness naturally sometimes better than adults do.
The dog is now safe with us and will receive the care and love he deserves. And to that little boy: thank you for showing compassion. You tried to save a life and that matters more than you know.
