Three people were gunned down in separate incidents across the Cape Flats this week, with the Cape Flats Safety Forum renewing calls for a coordinated strategy to combat ongoing gang violence.
The South African Police Service in the Western Cape confirmed that an 18-year-old man was fatally shot in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain, on Monday night. Three men and a woman aged between 33 and 40 were wounded in the same incident.
Police responding to multiple scenes
According to police, Mitchells Plain officers responded to a complaint of a shooting on the corner of Hengelaar and Cricket Streets. The victim was declared deceased at the scene by medical personnel, while the four wounded were transported to a medical facility.
In a separate incident, Steenberg police registered murder and attempted murder cases for investigation following a shooting on Monday evening. SAPS said the circumstances surrounding both incidents remain under investigation and no arrests have been made.
The Cape Flats Safety Forum says the deaths reflect a broader pattern of gang-related violence that continues to claim lives in Mitchells Plain, Steenberg, Gugulethu and surrounding suburbs.
