POSTMASBURG. – Mzwakhe Emmanuel Horing (31) has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the murder of a 22-year-old man in Marantheng, Newton, Postmasburg, earlier this week.

The incident occurred on Monday 5 May 2025 at approximately 18:10.

According to police, Horing found the victim in an intense conversation with one of his friends. Horing mistakenly concluded that the two men were physically fighting. Without establishing what the situation was, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police were notified of the incident and a murder case was registered.

The investigation was assigned to AO Tefo Shadrack Makhetha of the Postmasburg detectives. He tracked down Horing and arrested him. The state also successfully opposed bail, after which Horing remained in custody.

Makhetha gathered further evidence linking Horing to the murder and contributed to the successful prosecution of the case.

Horing was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Three years of the sentence was suspended for five years on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence during that period.

The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

Gen. Maj. Monica Sebili, the district commissioner of the ZF Mgcawu District, welcomed the sentence and commended Makhetha for his investigative work.

According to SAPD, the conviction and sentence demonstrate that police in the Northern Cape remain committed to combating serious and violent crime and bringing offenders to justice.
