ZIMBABWE. – ‘n Rovos Rail-passasierstrein was Vrydag in Zimbabwe met ‘n Bulawayo-Beitbrug Spoorweg-goederetrein, onderweg na die Victoria-waterval in ‘n kop-aan-kop-botsing betrokke. 18 passasiers is beseer.
Die luukse-passasierstrein van Capital Park in Pretoria het 47 internasionale toeriste en 34 personeellede aan boord gehad. Die ongeluk met die BBR-goederetrein het omstreeks 06:30 die oggend, 8 km buite Gwanda in die Hantinya-gebied gebeur. Die beseerdes is glo almal personeellede, waarvan 14 na die Gwanda- provinsiale hospitaal en vier Rovos Rail-personeellede na die Mater Dei-hospitaal in Bulawayo geneem is. Die beserings wat opgedoen is, is nie lewensbedreigend nie.
Die toeriste is vandag (Saterdag) van ‘n hotel in Bulawayo na die Victoria-waterval gevlieg waar hulle tuisgaan. Die beskadigde Rovos Rail-lokomotiewe en vier kompartemente wat beskadig is, keer terug na dié treindiens se hoofkwartier.
Die ongeluk word ondersoek.

On 18 April 2025, at 06:30, the Rovos Rail train en route to Victoria Falls had a head on collision with a goods train near Gwanda in Zimbabwe. This occurred on the BBR line (Beitbridge Bulawayo Railway). We had 47 guests and 34 staff members on board. No injuries were sustained by our guests. Four members of staff are presently receiving treatment in hospital in Bulawayo where they are expected to recover within the next two weeks.
On 18 April, the 47 passengers disembarked the train at 12:30 and were transferred to a hotel in Bulawayo. They were flown from Bulawayo to the Victoria Falls on the 19th and we have arranged accommodation for them all there.
The two Rovos Rail locomotives and 4 damaged coaches will be returned to our headquarters in South Africa before the end of April.
We have consistently travelled on the BBR line for over 20 years and have never had any serious incidents. We pride ourselves in the experience we give our guests, which is underpinned by safety for all onboard.
During our 36 years of operation Rovos Rail has continued to comply with all rail safety regulations. We sincerely regret this occurrence, but rest assured the safety and wellbeing of our guests and staff is paramount.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
