Remember the days when our parents dropped us off at school with nothing but a backpack and a lunchbox? No water bottles, no phones and no snacks. Yet, we survived—thrived even! It’s almost unbelievable in today’s gadget-filled world.

Back then, there were no smartphones to keep us connected 24/7. No texting friends or checking social media between classes. Instead, we passed handwritten notes, which were a whole lot riskier and more fun. If the teacher caught you, that note became public property!

And snacks? We didn’t have energy bars or fruit packs tucked away in our bags. Lunch was at noon and you ate what you brought—or traded. If you forgot your lunch, tough luck. You had to wait until you got home.

Water bottles weren’t a thing either. We drank from the communal water fountain, which, let’s be honest, was a breeding ground for germs. Yet, we’re still here, stronger than ever.

Without constant access to technology, we learned patience. We waited for things. Answers didn’t come instantly from Google; they came from libraries or encyclopedias. Social interactions happened face-to-face. We played, we fought, we made up and we learned how to navigate friendships without emojis.

It’s a wonder we managed, right? But we did. We learned resilience, independence and how to entertain ourselves with nothing but our imagination and maybe a stick or two.

Now, as parents, we find ourselves overpacking for our kids’ every possible need. What if they get thirsty? Hungry? Bored? It’s like we’ve forgotten our own survival skills.

So next time you’re stressing over packing snacks, just remember—we did fine with less. And our kids will too, even without the latest gadgets and a mini-fridge in their backpack.
