OOS-KAAP. – Nadat Jaques Alexander, ‘n DA-raadslid (49) Donderdagmiddag buite die munisipale kantore in Da Gamastraat op Jeffreysbaai tydens ‘n skietery gewond is, is vier verdagtes tussen die ouderdom van 26 en 40 jaar vinnig in hegtenis geneem.
Volgens kol. Priscilla Naidu het die raadslid omstreeks 15:45 in die straat parkeer. ‘n Ford Laser het glo verbygery, waarna twee verdagtes na bewering uitgespring en op die raadslid geskiet het. Hy het verskeie skietwonde in sy rug opgedoen.
Naidu sê die twee verdagtes het in verskillende rigtings gehardloop, maar is vinnig deur die polisie vasgetrek. Die verdagte voertuig is kort daarna opgemerk waar dit vir spoed in Da Gamastraat voorgekeer is. Nóg twee verdagtes is in hegtenis geneem en ‘n 9 mm-pistool is in ‘n erf opgespoor
Die vier verdagtes word op ‘n aanklag van poging tot moord aangehou.
Volgens Kouga-munispialiteit is Alexander in ‘n stabiele toestand in ‘n hospitaal in Port Elizabeth.

It is with deep sadness and regret that we inform the Kouga community of the unfortunate incident involving one of our esteemed councillors, Jaques Alexander. Councillor Alexander, who serves as a member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate and Communication Services and as DA ward councillor for ward 4, was shot outside the Kouga Municipality Main Building in Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay.
Cllr Alexander has been transported to a hospital in Port Elizabeth and is reported to be in stable condition.
At present, four suspects have been apprehended and are currently in custody.
We express our gratitude to the local South African Police Service, Kouga Law Enforcement, and local security companies for their swift response to the distressing situation. Their efficient efforts led to the apprehension of the suspects in less than 45 minutes after the incident occurred.
During this challenging time, we request the community to keep Cllr Alexander and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
