A Community Policing Forum initiated program continue to extend a hand of help on Friday, 26 June 2020 to the schools in Upington SAPS area. Members led by Col Eve April in conjunction with the CPF visited three schools to show support during this time of COVID-19. As learners of Grade 7 have commenced with classes and understanding that many house-holds have been experiencing challenges due to lack of income, the members thought it is a relevant time to continue with “Keep a girl child in school” project that has been running from last year. The project is aimed at supplying young girls from underprivileged backgrounds with sanitary pads to reduce absenteeism during menstrual period.
A total of 35 learners were supplied with sanitary towels, facecloth and soap to encourage good hygiene and self confidence among girls. The Acting Station Commander Col Gert Jobs conveyed a word of motivation and advice on noticing the signs of sexual abuse and how girls can protect themselves from becoming victims.
