The Anna Ramollo Polokwane murder has shocked Limpopo and reignited national concern over the safety of disabled women and girls in South Africa. The body of 18-year-old Anna Makhukhu Ramollo, a wheelchair user, was discovered in a shallow grave on the roadside between Zebediela and Polokwane.

Police confirmed the dismembered body was discovered after a farmer alerted authorities, having first been alerted by a shepherd who detected a foul smell near the roadside. A murder investigation has been opened and forensic teams dispatched to the scene.
Disabled People South Africa (DPSA) has expressed deep concern about the rising number of cases involving the abuse and killing of disabled women and girls in Limpopo, calling on government and civil society to develop targeted protection measures. Limpopo SAPS has appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
