The Kimberley water crisis has resurfaced after a fresh electrical fault at the Riverton Water Treatment Plants halted production, leaving residents across the city facing renewed supply disruptions.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality confirmed an electrical fault at the plant has interrupted the treatment process. Bulk supply into the city’s reservoirs has dropped sharply, with several suburbs reporting low pressure or no water at all. Technical teams are on site working to restore production, and water tankers have been deployed to priority areas.
The Riverton Water Treatment Plants are the primary source of drinking water for Kimberley, meaning any failure at the facility has an immediate citywide impact. Residents have been advised to use water sparingly, store drinking water in clean containers, and monitor official updates from the municipality. Those with medical or business-critical needs are urged to make alternative arrangements.
