GAUTENG. – Ian Cameron says he has received Sky's final pathology report. According to the report, the dog was found alive but unconscious and in shock in a pen full of blood.

Cameron, chairperson of the portfolio committee on police, says the post-mortem examination confirmed among other things various fractures on both front legs, including an open fracture where bone pierced the skin, as well as extensive wounds, bruises and muscle damage. According to him, the fractures were estimated to be approximately 12 to 16 hours old.

According to Cameron, muscle breakdown led to changes in the kidneys and acute changes in the heart muscle. The injuries would probably have been fatal had Sky not been removed. The report also notes several penetrating wounds – one that could possibly have been self-inflicted when Sky bit at her own limb trying to free herself.

Cameron emphasises that the report does not determine who was responsible for Sky's injuries. He says an internal police investigation, led by a general, must be completed by 9 October. Opod, the NVG and the South African Veterinary Council are also following their respective processes according to him.
