The SASSA grant review 2026 is part of a nationwide effort to confirm that social grants reach only eligible recipients.
What the review involves
SASSA CEO Themba Matlou said the process, introduced at the start of the 2025/26 financial year, uses biometric enrolment, life certification and data matching with institutions such as the South African Revenue Service and credit bureaus. The agency says it is saving government roughly R44 million a month, about R500 million a year.
Why it matters to beneficiaries
Beneficiaries flagged for review must respond when contacted. Those who do not comply risk having payments suspended, and continued non-compliance can lead to a grant lapsing. SASSA has urged recipients to keep their personal details updated and to report any change in income or circumstances.
